Mother!, for what it is, can be called a masterpiece. Just like all of Aronofsky’s films, they are polorizing. No one is going to say I love this movie, or this film is great. That is not in Aronofsky’s itinerary. He is trying to make you think. In a world so desensitized, so benign to current events, to art, to people. This movie perfectly demonstrates just how fucked up……we all are. And how much we relate to being fallible.

Okay this might be a mild rant on Darren Aronofsky but he is severely overrated all of his films represent a blatant disregard for hope and the good in people.

Now I love The Wrestler and The Fighter Requiem for a Dream. From a technical perspective these films are masterfully done but I think he misses a larger point in his films movies about despair from my point of view only work if there remains a glimmer of hope within it.

Now I understand that my points sound hypocritical and contradictory and also my point of view is not the end all be all. But movies in my opinion should inspire provoke emotion in some way even negative emotion but films and story in general should never make you hate humanity.

For example Requiem for a Dream is a movie I’ve only seen one time its too dark and depressing and leaves no hope at the end of it. Now Se7en by David Fincher is one of my favorite movies and despite it dark tone I return to watch it over and over. Primarily because despite its dark undertone the films in my eyes is not just about the dark sides of humanity but the brighter sides also.

In essence what I’m saying about Darren is while he is a talented film maker he misses a larger point in his films and his point of view is terribly unbalanced in its negative to positive ratio.
