Pros: Allowed me to work 20 hours a week. Set your own schedule. Skip a day when you want. Do extra work when you want. Finish early if you can. No real tests. (for my school) No homework, or maybe all homework technically? Either way there’s no extra busy work to do at the end of the day, so it feels different than real homework.

Cons: Lack of social activity/friends. Lack of direct teacher contact (could be a pro) Lack of support if your parent is not good at teaching (doesn’t apply to me, but certainly could apply to some.)

I was far better prepared for college than some of my public high school classmates and I had a better quality of education. It’s not a solution for everyone, but it was way better than the alternatives I had at the time.

Horribly. Now I’m 22 with a horrible case of social anxiety 🙁

It hit hard when I realized everyone outside my home was not also named Jebediah.

I lacked a lot of social skills after moving out at 18. Also, I missed out on a lot of my high school education because after about 10th grade my mom could no longer explain the lessons; only grade right/wrong answers via the answer key. This caused a lot of problems because when I began to struggle with subjects like Geometry and Chemistry she couldn’t help me at all because she had nothing higher than a 10th grade education.

I’ve always had a hard time fitting in with people my age because I’m more mature and serious than they are. I don’t see that as a negative though. I wouldn’t choose to be less mature or sillier just to fit in.

Honestly I find that sociality is something often taken for granted. I’m realizing now that disclosing siblings it’s a lot more of a task to go and search for groups and friends. It’s not impossible, but I definitely feel as if it’s way more necessary than normal. Overall I really enjoy it (and the academic side of things has really been helpful) and I wouldn’t trade it.
