Jessica Jones Actress.

I know with Reddit there’s an insane amount of opinion throwing but here’s my ten cent.

I don’t think the actress portraying Jessica Jones is good for the role. I’m sure the writers play into this in some way but for the most part both her facial and body language scream inept for the situation.

Picture back to the Jones season 1 trailer with a man (killgrave) tormenting her psyche and her dealing with it in short bursts of rage. What we got from her character was a person who has no regard for anyone but somehow has friends watching her back and caring for her.

In moments where she should either break down or show some sort of hurt she just turns away continuously just like Shane did with patting his head in the walking dead, she doesn’t seem to have anything else but resting bitch face.

Not hating on the show entirely and will keep watching but just felt like voicing that they could of gone with someone else.

Though I haven’t seen season 2 yet, I think Krysten Ritter is perfect for the part. I feel like the creators of the show are trying to show Jessica Jones as a destructive woman who hides her inner suffering by drinking, shutting others out and reacting indifferent. The only other thing I know her from is her small role in Breaking Bad, so I’m curious to see how Ritter will handle a happier Jessica Jones, should it come to that in Season 2 or a future Netflix/Marvel show. But as for the destructive part she’s nailing it.

I couldn’t disagree with you more.

In my honest opinion, if it wasn’t for the main actress the show would be shit like Iron Fist. It’s one of those Arrow-things, the protagonist holds the series together, without him or her, the series falls apart and gets canceled.

    Jessica’s actress is great.

I don´t know if you watched season 2 yet, but it proves that she is really the best casting for the role. About the fact that her body doesn´t fit the character I think it´s on purpose (S2 anthagonist is stronger than her and has a “mom´s body”).

I don’t know but your issue seems to be more with the writing. Her acting is not to blame when she’s been asked not to break or to be an asshole to someone… etx.

Didn’t even bother to include her name (Krysten Ritter), eh OP? Pretty insightful opinion.

If you’re gonna have a strong opinion about an actress that you feel the need to share, you should probably at the very least google her name first. Krysten Ritter is great; and the character Jessica Jones keeps nearly everyone at a distance. She doesn’t have very many friends watching her back. If you don’t know why someone like Trish cares deeply about her, try rewatching. If you don’t know why someone like Jeri Hogarth sees value in her I’ll give you a hint, she’s got super powers and very few scruples.

The whole point of Jessica is that she’s someone incredibly damaged. Her family died and she not only feels responsible but also has guilt over being the only one who survived. She was then adopted by a woman who just wanted to use her to look good. And, on top of that, she has “great power” she never asked for which means everyone expects her to have “great responsibility” when all she wants to do is avoid her pain – and giving in to these expectations led to her being psychologically tortured by a maniac, leading to PTSD and even more damage due to killing an innocent woman.

She turns away because she’s doing everything she can to avoid breaking down or hurting.

That’s the thing: As much as Jessica wants to escape from being a hero and not dealing with others, that’s obviously not who she is deep down. She wouldn’t have gone to the lengths she did to save Hope if she did. She wouldn’t have helped the rest of the Defenders. Jessica’s great irony is that the harder she runs, the more she feels she has a responsibility to help. A lot of it just comes down to being a front she puts on. I mean, she literally chose an occupation that is all about helping desperate people.

And as far as having friends who watch her back, these are primarily two people: Tricia and Malcolm. And they, more than anyone, understand who Jessica really is because they can relate to her damage. Tricia was raised by the same abusive, narcissistic mother who used her and, frankly, had it worse than Jessica in a lot of ways. Malcolm also struggles with addiction, and is loyal to Jessica because she helped to save him from that, which allows him to see through a lot of her uncaring act.

She’s definitely too pretty to have such an independent attitude.
