Every large corporation with an interest in marketing and PR has infiltrated reddit years and years ago.

All the big subs on this site are actively gamed on a daily basis, it’s been that way for a long time

  2. Buffalox March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Oh wow, that must have been extremely subtle, because AFAIK nobody ever noticed or suspected anything.

  3. xitax March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

By “infiltrated” I assume they mean that they registered some accounts. I, too, have infiltrated Reddit.

  4. blackandgreen41 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Reddit infiltrated by paid shills for PR firms leading up to every movie release ever – particularly sci-fi, comic book superhero movies.

  5. qbslug March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

    and who has infiltrated r/technology

  6. DingusMacLeod March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

You don’t have to tell me. I was *there* man!

  7. knpstrr March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

/r/politics is a toxic cesspool. Guess it makes sense Russia is running it.

  8. Djesus_unchained March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Sooooo nobody remember Correct The Record.

Reddit is a massive website that is “infiltrated” by most major entities.

  9. The_Thin_Mint March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Didnt Share Blue (or was it correct the record?) literally buy /r/politics?

They went from full-fledged Bernie Bros to Pro-Crooked Hillary overnight. Like literally overnight.

  10. creefer March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

A couple hundred accounts? Out of 250 million users…

  11. jlange94 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

I wonder if the ShareBlue accounts will ever be mentioned either. Obvious fake accounts that spammed the same comments and posts were rampant during late 2016.

Edit: Looks like my post was just brigaded by some snowflakes making fake accounts because they didn’t like me bringing up anyone else but supposed Russians making fake accounts.

  12. swolemedic March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

So many people dismissing this as nothing in here, that’s weird… I guess some people may feel that way, but I for one thought it was pretty obvious at points and it wasn’t a small matter.

  13. CorndogFiddlesticks March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Funny, I’ve been saying for years that specific subreddits were heavily manipulated. The responses were heavily downvoted, with commentary accusing me of amazing things.

And beyond Russian Propoganda, certain subreddits ARE and always will be heavily manipulated by blocks of accounts.

    Reddit is dying.

  14. spatimouth01 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Reddit has been a whore house for Russian trolls long before the US election run up….

  15. greyleafstudio March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Almost certain it is happening in this very topic. You can see how it works for yourself!

Note the highly dismissive comments that are quite popular. I could never prove any of this irrefutably, but I want to urge everyone to think very critically about the threads here. The goal is usually to trivialize the subject matter.

Lastly, educate yourself about disinformation or dezinformatsiya – “deza” for short. It is a critical component of Kremlin Active Measures: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_measures

  16. itsnotthenetwork March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

When we say “infiltrated” aren’t we really just saying that some people created some accounts on Reddit?

  17. cancelyourcreditcard March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Yahoo! is the White Elephant in the room. They’re full of bullshit posters, who weren’t there for the 2008 elections. It’s gotten so ridiculous that it’s a disservice to the public to not take action and neutralize the botting.

  18. RedSocks157 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

And yet, everyone just pretends that ShareBlue/Correct the Record haven’t been in complete control of certain subs…

  19. fredbnh March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

    There’s still a shit load here. ^cough ^cough Doberman ^cough ^cough

  20. GreatNorthWeb March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

How do you “infiltrate” a site where you can join anonymously, for free, from any nation, and maintain as many accounts as you like?

Russia had not measurable effect on the election, unless you measured the salt mined from everyone that sobbed over the outcome.

Based on that, the EU infiltrated Reddit.

  21. s1rp0p0 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

    >which it suspects are of Russian origin, or which were linking directly to “known propaganda domains”.

“Everyone I don’t like is a Russian bot”

  22. pflulu March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

    they are still active

  23. razorbackgeek March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Reddit is guilty of complacency in their moderation. Most sites won’t allow certain email addresses, or multiple users from a given ip.

  24. Zyklon_Bae March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

I’m so tired of this lame crap. Russia/USSR has been meddling in our business since..a very long time. The US meddles in every country’s elections, so what?

  25. Manaspider March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Even so my own government has propagandized me 10x more than Russia could ever even hope to.

  26. KayakBassFisher March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

If Hillary had won, would we be looking this hard into Chinese and Saudi infiltration?

  27. Bond4141 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Yeah because the Democrats didn’t have Correct the Record, better known as the Ministry of Truth here the entire time anyways.

  28. konorM March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

How do you know when something is Russian propaganda? Seriously. Are there tells? What would you say to look for to keep from being subject to the propaganda?

  29. DukeofKick March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

That sure is a convenient excuse for why so many Democrats are about to lose a large amount of major elections.

    >we didn’t lose! It was unfair! It was those darn Russians!

  30. KindaCrypto March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

I frequently gave my opinions on the election so Reddit is also infiltrated by Canadian propaganda too.

What’cha going do about it? Tariff our steel? Soft wood lumber?

    Good luck with that.

  31. enoctis March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Who, of the sane, *really* give a fuck? I’m tired of seeing Trump in the headlines. He’s our President, and will make good and bad decisions, just like the rest. Nothing is irreversible, so deal with it, and vote next term. Yay! (most) Problems solved.

  32. lestatjenkins March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

It was me comrads, I got you to get to vote for Trump, you fools.

  33. UserOfChairs March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

There was a lot more inconsiderate discord during that time and it’s had a lasting affect on my comment habits. I still hesitate to make any comments for fear of being shot down in flames. Not sure how others feel about it, but I’m glad to see this ending.

  34. bobinrva March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

That’s why use reddit for the funny meme’s and pet tricks, NOT for news. smh

  35. Ofbearsandmen March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Is it really infiltration when the higher-ups know everything about it?

  36. ElevatorPit March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

Interesting that “reminder” is not the first comment. Let ’em have it boys!

  37. OwItBerns March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

I remember these days. Wonder how many propogandists I parried with.

  38. theusa2 March 13, 2018 / 8:41 pm

You’re right not to risk it. You need a safe bet. Just like how it’s a safe bet to trust TD Bank for excellent customer service and great banking products?
