“Redditor pulls a fact out of his ass”

AKA 80% of people on reddit

  3. Hairofthe February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

That entire thread was full of comments saying that the Koreans and their families would be killed for not being perfectly in sync. Others saying they’re tortured slaves forced to pretend to be happy.

Ignores the possibility and liklihood that the few selected to go are highly privileged members of the elite of North Korean society, supporters of the party and highly nationalistic.

  4. pizzafourlife February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I agree with second commentator. There is so much bad shit that there is no need to make up

Reddit likes to act like they’ve been to North Korea

  7. Roadkilla86 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

To be fair, they probably heard it from someone else, and just believed it

  8. LovableContrarian February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

This guy thinks north Korea would kill all of their best athletes for not winning?

Evilness aside, that doesn’t even make fucking sense. Now you’re definitely not going to win next time.

  9. Transmogrify_My_Goat February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Lol I actually thought this was true up until now. Here’s what I’m confused about. My understanding of this sub was that it was posts about people who were intentionally bullshitting, isn’t this guy just kind of wrong? I mean, everyone can be wrong sometimes, doesn’t seem like he is intentionally spreading this around while knowing it’s not true.

  10. swollen_butthole February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Op is thinking of Iraq under the Hussein family. Uday Hussein had the Iraqi soccer team tortured, according to legend.

  11. Prometian February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Why do people *do* this? It’s like breeding hatred is entertaining… Bunch of psychos. 😡

  12. OffMyMedzz February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Yea, people seem to posit all the evil in the world onto North Korea. I remember they had a star diver that had just come off a world championship last Olympics. She failed to even qualify for the finals. She still lives and competes, and has still been quite successful after her Summer Olympics failure.

  13. SpaceAgeUnicorn February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I saw the same thing about Russian hockey players in the Olympics four years ago. “Well if they fail Putin will kill their families” despite most nhl players being largely located in the US.

  14. coolmandan03 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Yeah – but where was he between the 2010 Olympics and 2011? It’s like he disappeared…. if only for a year…

  15. Keegsta February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Redditors/Americans will swallow anything about North Korea, it’s kinda sad, honestly.

  16. yayungboy February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

This is true, but not about the Olympic team I believe. The 2010 Korean World Cup Sauad was marched through the streets and publicly humiliated and their coach was sentenced to hard labor for the teams performance.

There were also some unconfirmed reports of torturing the players by FIFA’s governing body but once again, unconfirmed.

  17. steelersrock01 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I hate when people – especially on reddit – make things up and pretend they’re true. But what really gets me going is when they spout these “facts” with so much authority when really it’s all bullshit

  18. Taser-Face February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Probably mixed that up with Iraq, weren’t those athletes facing some brutality? Uday had them tortured. Ehhhhh just a mixup.

  19. josephkebab February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

i’m not saying NK didn’t do anything wrong but a lot of the stuff we see about them is propaganda against them

  20. Weaksidewing February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

This is more r/splittinghairs than r/quityourbullshit, given [how historically that has been true, if you consider being sent to prison camps little different than being sentenced to death](http://www.newsweek.com/north-korean-soccer-team-punished-world-cup-failure-74239)

I would point to this in particular from the article.

    > In the past, he said, athletes and coaches who displeased the regime were sent to prison camps: “Considering the high hopes North Koreans had for the World Cup, the regime could have done worse things to the team than just reprimand them for their ideological shortcomings.”

  21. xbangtanhoe February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

All the facts one could possibly state about NK and they make stuff up, lol

  22. duster_lapua February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

This is a completely un noteworthy thing to call somebody out on because tens of thousands of people have died anonymously in North Korea, and they frequently execute people trying to exchange information, which means all information regarding North Korea is subject to being challenged.

So trying to act North Korea gets too much trash for randomly executing people does not make you look smart. This is like some guy getting 16k upvotes for telling somebody the exact amount of deaths on hamburger hill.

  23. StreetCountdown February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I think there’s a bitter layer of irony about many comments make about NK. People will talk about how much propaganda the citizens are fed and all the atrocities, then use pieces of propaganda to qualify these comments.

This isn’t to say some of these things don’t happen, or that we should support the regime.

  24. 13ANANAFISH February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Last person to make something up on reddit disappeared

  25. Peg07 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Well according to CNN Kim jongs sister is the greatest person EVER

  26. splettt February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

    Imagine defending north korea

    lmao

  27. VeganMcVeganface February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

What’s going on with all the pro NK shilling lately? It’s a shit hole country. Stop defending it.

  28. GooBear187 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I thought to first dude was joking honestly

  29. appropriate-username February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

If NK sent their best athletes to the Olympics and then disappeared them, they’d be killing any shot they’d have at winning in the future. It makes no sense.

  30. NameNowTaken February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I’m no expert but this is Reddit so I’ll just say that I am.

  31. Redbeardshanks February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

And Bitcoin is just the name for fractions of pennies that get stolen by lex luthor and (coincidentally) Peter Gibbons. These are the FACTS people.

  32. johnboyauto February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

I heard they are all brainwashed to believe anything about us.

  33. Jeferson9 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

It would be nice if Reddit cared half as much about a US reporter reporting a made up story about the removal of the MLK bust from the oval as they care about the specifics as to when a murderous dictator actually
    murders it citizens.

  34. Cory2020 February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Idk..it’s still a very oppressive regime. Why do people get shot at when they try to leave? I could totally see them getting killed for stupid shit

  35. Blabberm0uth February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Maybe they’d mistaken it for the Iraqi team, who I believe were tortured and many disappeared. Or was that soccer?

  36. baer_lu February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

Maybe it depends on where I live but people seem to think asia is another planet or something. When they see or hear something weird they blindly believe things because, no wonder they did that! They’re cHInEse!

I’m mixed and don’t look asian at all to myself. I don’t really fit with any race but people seem to always bring it up ‘So where you from?’ or some stereotypical comment about my love for rice or actually any food not from the “kitchen” of my own country. Is asia really such a mysterious weird place? Sorry for the slight rant but I just don’t get the whole asia is weird/awful/fantastic/otherworldly and people obsessed with their fantasies.

  37. Lucky_Milk February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

But North Korea tortures and punishes olympians who fail…

  38. -BroncosForever- February 14, 2018 / 2:38 am

They don’t have enough healthy people to be killing their olymians
