I guess they didn’t like having their 200 “totally not mercenaries” chewed up when they attacked a US base?

Edit. Lmao. Into negative votes within minutes. 200 Russian allies get killed in an attack on a US base and now Russia threatens this? There is no way these aren’t unrelated.

  3. Odnyc March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

If the U.S. were to attack, they’d use destroyers to launch tomahawks. I don’t see Russia attacking a U.S. destroyer flotilla. Especially as destroyers are made to provide Anti-Air coverage, which is the most likely attack vector.

  4. RapidCreek March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Since the Russians have attacked the US before in Syria, I wouldn’t be surprised.

    With more trolls on Reddit.

  6. kittenTakeover March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Sounds like propaganda to make everyone question reports about gas attacks. They want you to think everything is a false flag attack so that you give their buddies in Syria the benefit of the doubt.

  7. Valearx March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Russia will respond with all eight serviceable combat aircraft they have in Syria? 😂

  8. We_Are_For_The_Big March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

The Russian military is a joke. Couldn’t even do a real missile test. It was a shitty CGI video.

  9. Re_didit March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Putin lost the plot long time ago Russia needs a revolution

  10. georgefnix March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Not that I think we should be wasting resources in Syria and the Mideast in general… Go ahead and bring it Putin, you will be sending your men to die for nothing. At least you will get to watch in awe as our boys destroy yours with ease.

    >tass.com: US planning missile and bombing raid against Damascus — top brass

One of these things is not like the other…
Must be the Russian propaganda machine.

  12. SteeleDuke March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Wow! This comment section is something out of a movie. The Russian bots sure are hitting this thread hard!

  13. badassmthrfkr March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Russians should really be laying low for a while after the UK fiasco.

  14. SCM7 March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Quick question: Why target Damascus instead of the SyAA forces on the eastern side of the Euphrates?

  15. Belatorius March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Been a crazy week and it’s only Tuesday.

  16. rick2497 March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Being that they had their asses handed to them the last time they attacked our forces, I doubt they will be in any hurry to do a repeat. Russia does have some high tech weapons but they are rare in their forces. A small handful of top end planes etc. is not going to make much difference.

  17. True_Baseball March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Don’t know if the Russian and American propaganda is worse when I go into these threads. It’s quite clear Americans don’t follow the Syrian conflict though.

  18. Lycerius March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

“Valery Gerasimov, head of Russia’s General Staff, said Moscow had information that rebels in the enclave of eastern Ghouta were planning to fake a chemical weapons attack against civilians and blame it on the Syrian army.”

How I read it: Assad plans to gas rebels/civilians in that area and Russia wants to provide cover for him to do so. Call me cynical, but it seems to me that there’s no moral depravity Russia won’t defend so long as it advances their interests. They practice realpolitik in its purest form.

  19. elboydo March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

So this is a response to the news today from the US Hailey claiming they may strike Damascus over the east ghouta situation.

Generally this is seen to to be linked to the deteriorating situation of US hold in Syria, especially as they have the issue of needing to remove the YPG from manbijj within the next week, if the US fails then Turkish action in rojava is likely. Turkish action in Rojava effectively ends the US mission in regime change.

Now many people liken the deirz incident to this, quite frankly, they are not comparable.

That was several hundred non direct military russian fighters with no air support or AA getting chewed up by the US.

This is the US threatening strikes against the capital of Syria, in total non self defense (as in aggressively attacking a sovereign nation), in an area with a large volume of Russian personnel, largely because their dreams of regime change are about to die.

Attacking here will very likely result in high risk to actual Russian military, in an area that has high degrees of anti air devices, including the advanced Russian s-400 systems which America has seemed very wary of, given their response to Iraq and Turkey seeking to purchase these systems.

The short end to all this, however, is the US will likely not act here. Risking a war with Russia is too great of a risk, and furthermore, it’s gradually reached the point where America has lost the hearts and minds game against Syria, as the SDF have increasing internal opposition, growing rebel movements, turkish hostility, and are generally starting to crack.

so in so few words: what we see on both sides is posturing, the US side because it is unhappy that Syria did not go how they wanted, and Russia because it is expected to posture back, just like how the US has done similar when Russia has threatened them.

TL:DR US threatened to bomb syrias capital in opposition to the Syrian governments operations to remove Jaysh al islam, rayhman corps and nusra from eastern ghouta, Russia responded that it would attack any forces attacking the capital in self defense.

  20. AtheistComic March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

very good Russia, tell them your military plans I’m sure that will work out nicely for you.

  21. BreezyMcWeasel March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

“U.S. says it will respond if Russia attacks an ally with chemical weapons.”

  22. RussianBotTroll March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Can’t we just give the FSA more weapons? Is that cool by Russia?

  23. UGotThe_D March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Ok, Let’s at least get our facts straight before a giant war erupts.

  24. LaDolorosa March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Fascinating, it’s been almost one year exactly since the US last threw a passel of missiles into Syria. I thought it was a wonder at the time that Putin never retaliated, I guess it’s never too late to have a *nuclear world war*.

  25. Morgennes March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

That’s what I call an invitation to strike.

  26. litecoiner March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

is the US at war with Syria? I’m out of the loop. Did the congress declare war to Syria?

  27. Lilbignin March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

What about all those times they struck Syria?

  28. donmeekie March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

The USA is in Syria uninvited. Why are we there? Are we fighting terrorists or creating them?

  29. Bitch_Muchannon March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

I heard there is an underground civilian movement in Russia with deep roots plotting to take down their leaders.

    Revolution is coming to Russia…again

  30. tkitta March 14, 2018 / 3:54 pm

Russia would probably hit back with cruise missiles US bases in Syria or these that are of US friendly forces.

Either way US Syria strategy is falling apart with Turkey / Russia / Iran full on win coming closer and closer.

Maybe throwing Kurds under the bus was not such a great idea? Maybe US presence in Syria is not really justified – it seems it made US position in the ME weaker… it moved Iraq away from US, it made Turkey openly hostile. Egypt is firmly in Russia camp.

Maybe US simply doesn’t have a strategy in Syria?

Good. Hopefully we don’t, but I’m curious to see what Mike Pompeo wants to do. I trusted Rex, Mike makes me uncomfortable, hopefully he doesn’t blindly listen to Pompeo.
