The writing is painfully silly. I could mock it myself, but since others already did…

This last episode (beware, spoilers) as described by /u/ashigaru_spearman :

    >”You dont know me, but i got this ipad and will blow up the planet somehow so therefore i am your new ruler. And also cancel the war we are literally hours from winning.”

    >”Well i guess we better do what she says.”

    And by /u/ZaphodBoone :

    >And before that.

    >Michael : “Alright Starfleet, here is my plan, that bomb that is basically our last hope while the Klingon fleet is about to destroy our home world, I gonna give it to one of our Klingon prisoners and she gonna stop to war for us.”

    >Admiral : “Is the Klingon lady trustworthy Micheal?”

    >Micheal : “How the fuck should I know? I barely know her.”

    >Admiral : “Sounds like great plan, let’s do this!”

    And by /u/EmeraldPen :

    >Michael: “Well, I do know she is a religious extremist and values nothing more than unifying the Klingon race under one banner so that they may remain strong, and Remain Klingon. ”

    >Admiral: “Even better! I see absolutely no way this could possibly go wrong!”

And the whole season is like that.

I’m still so indecisive on whether I want to continue this show or not.

Shame i’ll never see it because CBS decided they wished to suck a bag of throbbing, knobbly dicks. Assholes isolating star trek onto their paid service, they can go to hell. Roddenberry’s rolling in his grave over this shitty move.

I liked it, at the end of the day the big finale was an argument over ethics, now that’s what Star Trek is all about.

And it came out of a whole season, using two universes, to fully understand how Klingons think, which was the problem all along. Starfleet believes in solving problems through knowledge and understanding. The Klingons present a massive problem to that, as they are essentially Starfleets antithesis, not evil per se, but incapable of understanding an opposition that does not want to destroy them at a time when they are divided and weak.

In the mirror universe the Klingon leader says something essential, “a house must be united before it can invite anyone else in”. That is a critical piece of information about solving the Klingon problem, which is what that final decision is all about.

Starfleet does not defeat, they are not military they are scientists, they solve problems. The Terrans defeat, and Starfleet almost went that way, but instead found a solution true to what Starfleet is. That’s Star Trek.

it’s an alright show.. and about as forgettable as most of television nowadays.

as a hard core SF fan… brought up on Trek… the fact I have several eps languishing and waiting to be seen is NOT a good sign

everything that made Star Trek great… it is not.

streaming.. for oce I am happy with how this is delivering content, and the price. Fragmentation is a problem… I’m not gonna follow shows across platforms, and needing to subscribe to a dozen series is not a solution…. piracy will see a revival as more and more services pop up rather than just a few major subscription services…. and holding Trek fans captive, to launch a new channel is bastard move

STD is just silly. Discovery occurs before TNG (actually even before the original series), so it makes you wonder why Enterprise isn’t bouncing around the universe with spore drive technology, as would be the case with Starfleet’s flagship. If it’s so easy to pass back and forth between multiple realities, star trek TNG would be about the exploration of multiple universes, which it is not. Basic warp drive tech is in use only, and the enterprise uses warp tech to drive around a single universe. That the discovery could jump directly into a cave on kronos is beyond stupid. Why didn’t they just do that in the first place as soon as they knew they could do it.

Secondly that the Klingon empire just stops it’s attack on the federation suddenly because of a stupid threat to blow up Kronos and hand power over to a female Klingon- pah-leeease. Klingon’s are an incredibly male dominated society. For them to suddenly stop their attack on earth because a woman told them to, is plain garbage. This premise was just retarded, and destroyed the entire season, which was basically dumb.

The only reason anybody likes it is because it’s flashy. The story line is stupid.. The cinematic effects are what makes the show.

This is Harry Potter in space.Science fiction without any science. Pure fiction.

…for a Star Trek series. I think this is important to add. It’s not the best television ever, but a stronger start then even TNG had, IMO. No ST series was really that good in it’s first season.

  8. agentOO0 February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

The start was crap and the end was crap, but everything in the middle was amazing.

  9. lotionan February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

The final episode was so boring, the “big reveal” was obvious 2 episodes ago. That kind of ending might work in a movie, however in a series its to slow, predictable and boring. Maybe I am just not a star trek fan, however Earth was under siege and they didnt even ensure its safety. They trusted a fucking bad guy who tortured the main characters love interest. The bad guy they beat up the same day. That is the guy that they trust to not destroy earth. WTF

Someone got paid I see. The show was incredibly mediocre. Bad even, at times.

  11. winteriscomingforme February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

Ive watched every Star Trek series except TOS and with every single one of them i looked forward to the next episode. This gynocentric crap masquerading as Star Trek makes me sick to my stomach. And no im not a sexist. Voyager was my favourite! But this crap is just that CRAP! I really hope that its just the first season and maybe theres a chance the second season will be better? They really do need to get better writers though.

  12. boomearlier February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

It’s my favorite show! I love the characters and how it’s more unpredictable than the more formulaic- no one dies pattern. I really like how the show has Klingons flipped back to being the baddies like TOS was.

  13. obitobyone February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

I’m just a little bit of a trekker.. but I love it! It’s exciting, I love the story, it had a great cast, and it’s just a whole new style of Star Trek!

  14. Cave-Ninja February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

Whatever you may want to say about the writing, visually, this show was spectacular. I watched it in 4K, and was blown away on multiple occasions at how mind-bendingly good the special effects were. It is possibly the best looking show ever made. I can’t think of much else that tops it.

  15. mike_gainor February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

They really did. I was so much more into it by the end of the season than at the start. Good point about TNG starting with a weaker first season but becoming a classic.

  16. BurnedRope February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

The first episode had me SUPER concerned but they totally bamboozled us.

  17. BeazyDoesIt February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

LoL what? This star trek show blew.

  18. Southport84 February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

I hope this show gets cancelled. I refuse to give my money to CBS All Access.

  19. carella211 February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

Don’t care. As long as it’s behind a paywall, i will never watch it. TV channels putting their shows behind their own paywalls is dumb and proves these old people are still completely clueless as to why people are cable cutting.

  20. AngryBird225 February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

3 seasons worth of story in 16 episodes, and almost no filler.

Hopefully they can keep this going without sacrificing quality of story.

  21. tf2hipster February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

… And I didn’t watch any of it. CBS No Access.

  22. despisedlove2 February 14, 2018 / 10:31 am

What are the numbers? They tell a different story.

It will take more than politically correct blah blah to rescue this junk.
